One Spring while fishing the Roaring Fork River I pumped the stomach of a Rainbow( and I haven't pumped a stomach for many years) and found it was full of green caddis larva. That evening in my motel room I tied a prototype caddis larva pattern that would evolve into the Net Builder. The next day on the river the new pattern lit it up. Even though the larva that I found when pumping the stomach were free livers , neither the free living caddis or the net building caddis larva build a case and I named the pattern I designed the Net Builder because I liked the name. It has been a go to pattern ever since.
