With the face only a mother could love, these little dudes are prized meals for big trout.
Not surprisingly, they are always on a trout’s menu, and are often overlooked in fly selections.
Sculpin are not the greatest swimmers and are easily over powered by the current, making them easy targets.
This concept was the basis of this fly’s design.
I wanted to emulate the “drifting” swimming profile that looked identical to what I believe the trout see.
With the “balanced” weight concept on a jig hook, this fly hunts practically snag free.
It is my go-to when tight-lining pocket water, but works equally as great suspended under a ‘cator."
