Growing up amidst the picturesque landscapes of Colorado, I found solace in fly fishing the pristine tail waters of the South Platte River. It was during my high school years that I discovered the art of tying flies, a craft that swiftly evolved into a consuming passion.
Between college years, I worked as a guide for South Platte Fly Shop in Woodland Park, CO. It was during this time that my Bubble Fly concept began to take shape, born from countless hours spent on the river and at the vise, observing and experimenting.
Despite my passion for fly fishing and guiding, my academic pursuits led me down a path in medicine, graduating from medical school in 2024 with plans to specialize in ophthalmology.
The parallels between surgery on the delicate structures of the eye and the meticulous art of fly tying are striking. Both demand unwavering attention to detail and finesse. It's this innate connection that drew me towards crafting realistic fly imitations, favoring the use of natural materials, especially deer hair. Stacking deer hair has become one of my favorite methods as it is a meticulous process that allows for both precision and creativity in creating lifelike flies.
