I was raised in North Idaho and began fly fishing at a young age. Soon after, I dove into fly tying to help me pursue the regions wild trout. Little did I know then how impactful it would become in my life.
I now reside in North Alabama, where I’ve lived for 20 plus years. My passion is to pursue the native smallmouth bass in the area and develop flies to target these fish.
One of these flies, the “Ribbit Rhol ,” was developed along the way. It was developed to be a better frog solution for low clear water summer time situations, but it quickly became a go to topwater fly for multiple conditions and species. It is quite a sight to see a smallmouth slowly approach this frog and lazily gulp it down with confidence. It has proven equally effective on largemouth and spotted bass and has accounted for its fare share of big brown trout.
Fly tying and fishing have been a long time addiction for me. I think it’s the escape from the rest of the world that I crave the most. It’s a destresser for sure.
This is a great hobby with great people involved. As I get older I’ve come to realize that it’s becoming more about the people. I’ve learned to share the hobby, the fly pattern, the secret, and the love. The river has a way of healing people that deserves to be shared.
