Home waters- During the fall, winter and spring I spend most of my time fishing for trout on the Madison, Gallitan, Yellowstone and some other unmentionables. When the days get much warmer and longer during the summer I like to spend my time carp fishing on the Mo and Canyon Ferry.
About- Currently I’m managing a fly shop in Bozeman Montana where I get off at 2:30 everyday to go fishing and test my flys. It’s pretty crazy honestly for a guy who grew up in Illinois without a trout in sight. Definitely no complaints here... I take leisure pretty seriously as well...
Favorite fly- probably a woolly bugger. Nymph it, strip it, slick it with floatant... that fly gets it done
What elements make for a great fly- Placebo effect....gotta have faith... also movement is key for me on a fly. Things like marabou tips, rubber legs, rabbit zonkers w/ or w/ out the strip, etc. and I personally like trying to put as many materials into a dubbing loop as I can.
Who are your mentors in the sport- Big Fly Matty Miller, Midge Fly Tyson Stark and anyone who isn’t an ass when they come in to the shop....I learn from everybody!
Philosophy on fly fishing- There are no rules, no one is 100% right, be nice, experiment as much as you can. HAVE FUN! Oh and when you get out on the water, that’s everybody’s wave....NOT your spot....
