Steven was born and raised in the small town of Townville, on Lake Hartwell, in the Piedmont Region of South Carolina. There he spent his early years chasing panfish, bass and land-locked stripers on both fly and conventional tackle.
Eventually he and his dad began making forays into North Carolina, where a love for trout and cold-water fisheries was forged. During his high-school years Steven lived in Hungary with his family. Again, he and his dad made forays into neighboring countries like: Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and several other European countries, in pursuit of trout and European grayling.
For college, Steven landed in Bozeman, MT where he quickly fell in love with Montana’s public lands and wild trout. These days Steven is a well-established guide based in Bozeman, where he spends the summers on the river with clients, and the winters tying prodigiously dreaming up new patterns to test on the trout of Southwest Montana.
