I began my fly fishing journey as a kid in southern Alberta on the Bow River. I started tying common patterns like the wooly bugger and small pheasant tail nymphs for trout but it wasn’t till many years later that I started to take fly fishing seriously. Every season I would work on a new method of showing flies to trout, whether it was dry flies, nymphing under an indicator or stripping streamers I love to try new things when I fish. After seeing a few friends European nymphing I was intrigued and dove in head first.
It was during my European nymphing sessions that I created the Firecracker Stonefly. It was a fly created to solve a specific fishing challenge, from there I was fascinated with fishing new bugs that hadn’t been seen by trout before. I hope that many others can have as much joy fishing my bugs as I do.
