My name is Remington Allred, and I’m from Shoshone, Idaho. I’ve never subscribed to the ideal that fly fishing is for trout only, and my tying style shows exactly that. I definitely consider myself more accomplished as a fly tier, but even tier’s have to get out and test flies!
I’ve been fly fishing since I was 7-8, and really dedicated to tying since 2010. My tying style is… big flies. I absolutely love the process of building out a silhouette of the forage I’m imitating. I’m heavily inspired by Gunnar Brammer, Kelly Galloup, and Blane Chocklett. Those guys were instrumental in my learning new methodology and I couldn’t thank them enough.
I target smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and carp locally. My latest obsession has been carp on the fly - it scratches that saltwater itch while being much closer to home. Carp are a technically demanding fish and the best freshwater fish to hone your ability for accurate casts as well as learning to fight a big fish. I do try and get at least one trip every other year to Florida because I love fly fishing the salt. It’s my kind of fish, every other fish out there wants to eat something half its size, and more importantly my kind of fly tying.
