I spent a lot of time outdoors growing up in Nashville, TN but didn't really get into fishing until I was around 18. I went to college at Furman University and started going fishing with friends in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains where I instantly fell in love with the sport. As soon as I graduated, I moved to southern Wyoming and guided at a guest ranch on the North Platte for a few years which is where I got into tying. I'm now in Jackson, WY and the obsession is worse than ever.
My winters pretty much consist of tying, skiing, and waiting for summer to come back around. That first float in the spring is always a treat, especially if you can catch a fat whitey. Late summer/early fall is definitely my favorite time to fish though, I love throwing terrestrials for big Cutthroat. Foam flies are my favorite to tie, but I've probably caught more trout on a soft hackle frenchie than anything else. Better yet, just fish them both together! If I've learned anything about fly fishing, it's that the most important part is to just have fun. Tie something new, throw something funky, go explore somewhere you've never been - as long as you're having fun you're doing it right.
