Logan is a passionate angler, tyer, and artist who has been lucky enough to call the waters of western Montana “home” for his entire life. He is a chemical engineer by profession, but those close to him will tell you that his heart lies where the fish are. He is happy to target any species that swims, but prefers to do it on foot - whether wading an expansive salty flat or trekking a few miles upstream on a local trout river.
Logan has been an avid fly tyer for over a decade, and he enjoys innovating and problem-solving when it comes to original patterns. When asked about his fly tying philosophy, he paused to think for a bit, then answered: “I think the best anglers out there can catch just about any fish on just about any fly; there are no direct substitutes for casting accurately or presenting a fly in a natural manner. However, those of us who aren’t among the most talented often rely on the fish to help us out a bit. My ultimate goal in pattern development is to create flies that will cause fish to throw caution to the wind and go out of their way to eat.”
When the bitter cold of Montana winter hits, you can find Logan experimenting at his tying bench or handcrafting aluminum fish art out of his garage. During the rest of the year, you’ll find him waist deep in one of his favorite waters. His passion for the sport is worn on his sleeves, and he enjoys teaching and fostering that passion in newer anglers.
