Signature Tyer
I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania fishing for whatever I could catch, mainly panfish, bass, and trout, and mostly with conventional gear. I began fly fishing and fly tying around the age of 18, about the same time I was beginning college at Eastern Mennonite University in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. While there I spent as much time as possible hiking to tiny brook trout streams, as well as fishing some of the area’s more technical spring creeks.
Having never fished in the west, after college I moved to West Yellowstone, Montana in 2010 to begin a summer job working at Blue Ribbon Flies. I spent five summers working at the shop seasonally before moving into a year-round manager role. Along with assisting in managing our retail shop and online store, I design fly patterns and tie commercially for the Blue Ribbon, averaging 600 to 700 dozen flies per year. Aside from fishing, I also enjoy hiking and cross country skiing with my wife and two dogs.
