Dan Armstrong has dedicated his life to the art of fly fishing. He grew up exploring and fishing the great lakes tributaries in his backyard - otherwise known as ‘Steelhead Alley’ - where his passion for the outdoors was cultivated and his intimate familiarity with the area and it’s species was born.
At age 12, he started tying egg patterns with his mom’s crochet yarn. Since then, the career fisherman has had opportunities to visit, fish and guide some of the most remote places on earth - observing extraordinary occurrences of nature, and evolving his tying methods and designs along the way.
Dan has been an Alaskan Guide on the Kanektok River - mousing capital of the world, & where he refined the Hood Rat pattern - with Dave Duncan & Sons for 15 years. He owns Temple Creek Outdoors LLC., a Great Lakes-based guide service fishing for steelhead, smallmouth bass, and brown trout. He recently opened Conneaut Creek Float and Fly Shop in Conneaut, Ohio, in 2020. He is also involved with Hog County Whitetail Supplements and Team RIP Outdoors in the hunting industry.
As a passionate conservationist, Dan is an advocate for rivers and streams and all life forms that call them home. Some of his favorite flies to tie are - sculpins, baitfish patterns, and bonefish flies... while thinking of somewhere warm.
