Ron Mayfield has been fly fishing and fly tying for almost 50 years and he is one of the few people that is both an Umpqua Signature Fly Designer and a FFI Fly Casting Instructor.
Ron has fished from British Colombia to Belize and innumerable places in between. His home waters include east Texas lakes, Texas hill country limestone streams and the many bay systems along the Texas coast.
His passion is teaching fly tying and believes that when you teach someone to tie flies, you have the opportunity to create a naturalist that will better understand the ecosystems they fish. The more naturalists we create, the more support there will be for the conservation of the places we love to fish.
Ron has been featured in Fly Tier Magazine and referenced in several books and articles. His tying specialty is unique baitfish, frog and other deer hair patterns for saltwater and warm water ecosystems.
